Carla was born to Matthew King Jr. and Joyce "Veronica" Barse in Sisseton, SD on July 8, 1959. She was raised by her mother and Gary Cleveland on a farm southeast of Peever, SD. She attended school in Old Agency, Peever and Sisseton, SD. Family remembers her listening to records like CCR, Heart & Fleetwood Mac. Farm life for her was having fun picking apples, playing with baby dolls and getting chased and nipped in the butt by the geese. She had a favorite pet lamb she liked to play with. She became a mother in 1975 and for the next 21 years was a mother to 9 children. When she met her soul mate, Glenn German Sr. Their journey took them around the country from Peever to Phoenix and places in between. While raising her children she worked at the Circle of Nations School in Wahpeton, ND, SW Headstart, Tekakwitha Orphanage as a caretaker, and Dakota Magic Casino as a kitchen staff. Carla was a very strong willed and minded woman in all that she did. She loved and cared for everything she did in life, especially family and friends. She had a very strong impact in her children's spiritual followings. She made sure they knew their savior. Her most treasured times were with her family. She enjoyed farm life to the fullest and had a green thumb; she always had the most beautiful plants and flowers in her home. She also loved crafting, cooking, scrapbooking, and sewing. She was the queen of rummaging and thrifting. Carla passed away on March 22, 2021 at Sanford hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
