Ronald was the son of Ervin and Nina Cook. He was raised in Long Hollow, and grew up enjoying playing sports, wrestling, football, and baseball. He always loved being outside, he took many long walks with his walking stick. He loved to fish and hunt as the seasons allowed. Ron was a HUGE Minnesota Vikings football fan, there was a love hate relationship. Right out of High School Ron enlisted into the army as a calvary scout, and shortly after was honorably discharged for medical reasons. Some years later he started taking classes at the Sisseton Wahpeton College and graduated with his AA degree in Chemical Dependency. Throughout Rons earlier years he had three wonderful children, Terrell, Jackson, and Brielle. In 2008 he married his soulmate Tanna, to this union they brought six beautiful children into the world; Tyler, Zane, Cruz, Annabella, Ronald Cook Jr, and Tatewaciwi. After many years together they went their separate ways; Ron then had one more child Ervin. Ron's pride and joy were each and every one of his kids. He made sure they knew about spirituality and how to pray. Ron was always there when he was called upon by the people. He had helped so many with so many different things during his spiritual journey in this world. He loved his visits with Kunsi Evelyn. His favorite time of year was Sundance time because of sacrifices that would be made, and it would help the people who needed it the most. Ron will always be remembered for his sacrifices he made for his family and people. He will be missed by so many, but his children will continue his caring and loving legacy. One of Rons favorite sayings was, "You are Dakota, pray about it, and believe in that prayer."

Ronald Cook Sr. is also survived by his mother Nina Cook of Sisseton, SD; seven siblings Ervin Cook Jr. of Sisseton, SD, Desi (Chuck) Smith of Texas, Shayne Cook of Sisseton, SD, Wambdi (Megan) Cook of Peever, SD, Summer Cook of Washington, Kami Fisher, Shawn Cook of Sisseton, SD, soul mate Tanna Swan of Rapid City, SD, and grandchild Kastiella Cook.
