Child Support Enforcement – Diana Canku, Program Manager

Function/Mission Statement: Establish, modify, and enforce child support orders, collect/disburse payments, locate absent parents, and establish paternity through genetic testing.

Data for the Month:

Jaime Lee transferred to the Youth Program. Her last day here was July 9, 2021. The position was advertised but we only received one qualified applicant. The person chose a position in tribal court so we re-advertised the position. Megan Cook resigned her position here to take a position at Tiospa Zina. She informed me that she wanted summers off to spend time with her children and to attend their activities. Her last day was August 5, 2021. The position has been advertised. Interviews for the Data Entry position are scheduled for September 2, 2021. The position was readvertised so it is taking longer than anticipated to fill the position. Rainelle has been processing all child support payments since Jaime left.

We cancelled court for August since we don’t have a judge. An announcement was posted on the Oyate News site.

I have been working with the Interdisciplinary Team regarding the Tribal Management Grant and the Tribal Health Plan. We have been meeting every week online. The last virtual meeting was held on Monday June 21, 2021.

We have to begin working on a quadrennial review of our guidelines. We will develop a new survey and solicit public input. We received an official extension for the quadrennial review due to the hardships covid-19 has caused (e.g. no large events, social distancing, etc.).

I am currently working on the FY22 budget. This was submitted to our budget office on July 12, 2021. Our FY22 OCSE grant application was submitted on July 26, 2021. I have not received official notification yet from OCSE that the grant was awarded. That usually takes place in September of each year.

Our department will need a copy of the new indirect cost rate proposal once that is approved. I am required to submit the new rate to the funding agency as soon as it is received by the tribe.

Court hearings were originally scheduled for August 24 & 25 but were cancelled due to the lack of a judge to hear our cases. The hearings have been continued to September. I’m grateful that Judge Swallow has been hired as an interim Associate Judge and will be able to hear our cases in September.

The collections are through August 25, 2021. There were 382 receipts.
