Program Name: Dakotah Pride Center - Richard Bird, MS, LAC, Program Manager

Function/Mission Statement: To promote and sustain the quality of life, integrity, and empowerment of SWO Tribal Members by planning, developing and providing alcohol & drug addiction services consistent with the behavioral, physical, cultural and spiritual values of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate of the Lake Traverse Reservation.

Service Description: Dakotah Pride is a SD State accredited substance use disorder treatment program which provides alcohol & drug use disorder assessments; a 12-bed adult inpatient residential treatment program; intensive outpatient treatment program for adults; a 26-week aftercare treatment for adults; and a 10-bed transitional care halfway house for adult men and women. Other services provided by Dakotah Pride Center include; transportation for social detoxification; referral/collaboration to Mental Health Department at Indian Health Service; referral/case management for patients with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health disorders; and a 24-hour on call counselor (742-3114).

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES and ACTIVITIES for October 2021.

1. Intensive Inpatient Treatment Services for Adults: A group of 10 clients (6 men & 4 women) started their treatment on October 4, 2021. This cohort group is scheduled to complete the 30 day group on November 3, 2021.

2. Intensive Outpatient Treatment Services: A group 8 clients started the group on October 26, 2021and scheduled to complete on December 3, 2021.

3. Aftercare and Continuing Treatment Services: This group meets weekly on Tuesdays at 6:00- 8:00 pm. The group usually has 10-12 clients in attendance. Marylou Thompson, ACT provides the aftercare treatment services.

4. Transitional & Halfway House Services: On October 30, 2021, we have 8 clients living at the Dakotah Pride Halfway House, with 5 men and 3 women residing in the Halfway House. One of the women resides in the prenatal unit.

5. Treatment Needs Evaluations: The treatment needs evaluations completed for October 2021 totals 28, with 18 male and 10 females. Primary Diagnosis: included: Alcohol Use Disorder 25; and Methamphetamine Use Disorder 20; Cannabis Use Disorder 5; and Opioid Use Disorder 5.

6. Placement & Referral to inpatient treatment services for Co-occurring Disorders: Since October 1, 2021 we have placed 3 clients at the Keystone Treatment Center and 4 clients in the Tallgrass Recovery Center.

7. Prenatal Empowerment Program: Marylou Thompson is assigned as the Case Manager for this program. She is working with clients with various services, individual counseling; placement in a sober living environment; referral to treatment and insuring medical appointments are followed up. One client is currently staying at the Halfway House until further notice.

8. SD State Accreditation Report: The date for the next review will occur in September or October 2022.

9. Staff Updates: Ronnie Skjonsberg as transferred to the Intensive Outpatient Treatment program. He will work with Marylou Thompson in providing outpatient treatment. We are advertising for the position of Maintenance Worker.

10. New Treatment Center: The Workgroup Feasibility meets at least every two weeks until October when a report will detail the findings and recommendations. DSGW Architects are working with SWO for the feasibility study. So far the plans call for a 24 bed inpatient treatment for alcohol and drug use disorders. The admissions are to be on an open ended bed placement the length of stay in treatment will depend on the severity of the substance use disorder. The plans for having detoxification and transitional housing are pending. The Workgroup plans to have the final report with plan and recommendations completed by November 30. 2021.
