SWO Tribal Leadership Meets With Congress in DC

Agency Village,SD–Members of SWO tribal leadership traveled to Washington D.C. March29th,31st to visit with members of congress to request their support on multiple tribal projects.

On the agenda were meetings with Senator Cramer (R-ND), Senator Thune (R-SD), Senator Rounds(R-SD), Senator Hoeven (R-ND), Senator Smith (D-MN) ,staff from Senator Chuck Schumer's office (D-NY), representatives from the BIA ,and Senior Advisor to the White House Office PaaWee Rivera.

During these meetings, SWO leadership was able to request support from congress on accessing funding for three main projects: the new tribal police station, the addiction treatment facility, and an additional annex for the new jail. Further meetings are being scheduled for May 2022 to keep momentum going for these projects as well as infrastructure and food sovereignty initiatives that SWO is working towards.
